(ADW) For seven years now the sleek Bombardier Q400 planes have been part of the Luxair fleet of aircraft.
It has just been announced that a new generation Q400 will join the line-up in spring 2014, bringing the number of aircraft from the Canadian firm flying the Luxair flag to seven.
The total number of 16 planes currently flying for Luxair will actually remain unchanged as another aircraft, the 49 seater Embraer ERJ 145de, will be sold soon.
This strategic replacement with the new 76-seat plane will not only increase capacity on existing routes such as Geneva, Copenhagen and Milan, but will also help to extend Luxair's European network with flights to new destinations including the re-opening of the route to Dublin in spring 2014.
This acquisition is also consistent with Luxair's aim to operate one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the market on short and medium haul flights.
The new generation Q400 is said to have “technological advantages”, increased comfort, speed and fuel economy.
