Wort's on - Weekend events
From Shakespeare to beer festivals and edible buildings, exceptional events are never far away in Luxembourg this weekend.

PERFORMING ARTS
September 27: As You Like It, Grand Théàtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, 8pm
This Shakespeare classic is given a new twist by director Douglas Rintoul, who sets the play in a refugee-style camp. The play is performed in English with French subtitles. Also showing on September 30 and October 1. www.theatres.lu
MUSIC
September 28: On Stéitsch Festival, CarréRotondes, 2pm to midnight
Organised by the National Youth Service, this annual youth festival features more than 200 local young artists who will be exhibiting works of art and photography and performing music and dance acts at the culture venue CarréRotondes in Hollerich. September 27: AyeTunes, Tube Bar, 9pm
This acoustic trio will be guesting the Tube Bar in the city centre on Friday starting at 9pm and ending late
September 27: Sapporo Junior Jazz Orchestra, Esch-zur-Alzette Conservatoire de Musique, 8pm
Aimed at popularising jazz in the Hokkaido prefecture in Japan, this jazz school teaches children aged 6 to 15 to play and take them on tour every second year to promote the Sapporo Jazz Festival in their home city. Entrance is free. For more information, click here.

September 29: Apéro's Jazz, Brasserie Neumünster, 11.30am
Enjoy some jazz this Sunday at Abbey de Neumünster in the Grund. While the music is free, advance reservations should be made for the the brunch buffet by calling 352 26 20 52 - 981.
CINEMA
September 27: Minority report (NSA, CIA, FBI, Everyone), Cinémathèque, 8.30pm
As the last of five films, the Cinémathèque will be screening Steven Spielberg's sci-fi film Minority Report this Friday. The film is set in 2054 where a special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crime. Suddenly police officer John Anderton (Tom Cruise) from the department is arrested and accused of a future murder himself, but claims he's been set up.
September 27: Run and Jump, Ciné Utopia, 7pm
Directed by Steph Green and starring Maxine Peake, this Irish production follows Vanetia, a woman struggling to get back to normality after her husband suffers a rare stroke that alters his personality. Screened as part of the British and Irish Film Season.
September 28: The Callback Queen, Ciné Utopia, 9pm
Star Amy-Joyce Hastings will be present at this screening, which forms part of the British and Irish Film Season. This England-Irish co-production is a romantic comedy about a young actress struggling to get a big break in London's film industry.
September 29: Byzantium, Ciné Utopia, 9pm
Directed by Neil Jordan and starring Gemma Arterton, this English horror tells the story of two mysterious women who seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort and have a dark secret to share. Described as "Twilight for grown-ups," the screening is as part of the British and Irish Film Season.

EXHIBITIONS
Until October 27: QuattroPole, Ratskeller at Cercle Cité, 11am to 7pm
After exhibitions in Germany and France, a collection of four photographer's works will be on display in the city. The photographers have been shooting pictures in Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbücken and Trier, each visiting a different and city and portraying it from a visitor's perspective.
The exhibition will be running until October 27, with an exceptional closing from October 18 to 20. Entrance is free.
Until November 9: Ivan Andersen, Gallery Nosbaum & Reding
This figurative uses common and tedious motives of parking lots, living rooms and hot-dog inspired by surroundings of the modern Danish life and mixes them with graphic structures and different materials. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 6pm. For more information, visit nosbaumreding.lu.
September 27 to 29: Oekofoire, Luxexpo
Nearly 200 exhibitors will be presenting environmentally friendly products from alternative heating systems to clothes and cosmetics, as well as cooking competitions will take place at the Oekofoire this weekend. Entrance costs 5 euros, but for visitors arriving by bicycle or public transport, the cost is cut to 3 euros. Friday the exposition will be open from 2pm to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. For more information about the foire, go to oekofoire.lu.
Until October 7: Art against exclusion, Abbey Neumünster, 5pm
With art works donated by local artists and art collectors, this charity event raises money for children in Africa. The opening of the exhibition will be held on Friday at 5pm with opening hours from 8am to 7pm until October 7, where an auction will be held and the works will be up for sale.

OTHER
September 27-29: Alzingen Oktoberfest, times vary
Drink and be merry at this toned down version of Oktoberfest in Alzingen. As well as food and plenty of beer, there will be various live performances throughout the weekend. Starting 5.30pm on Friday, noon on Saturday and 10.30am on Sunday. www.oktoberfest.lu
September 27: Golf in the City, Place Guillaume II, midday to 8pm
A big street golf event is set to take place this Friday, where the public is invited to come and (re)discover the sport. A six-hole course will take you on a tour through the city centre – to sign up for the competition and for more information, go to golfinthecity.lu.
September 27 to 29: KidsCity, LuxExpo, 2pm to 6pm
This weekend it's okay to play with your food, when children aged 7 to 12 are invited to create edible buildings at a workshop organised by the Foundation for Architecture and Engineering and the Ministry of Housing as a part of the national housing week. Participation is free of charge.
September 28: La Magie de l'Orient, Brasserie Neumünster, 9.30am
Discover the richness of oriental culture at this festive event on Saturday. Courses in Arabic, dance and make up workshops, oriental percussion classes and Lebanese cooking classes will be available for participants. Tickets can be purchased at www.ccrn.lu and cost 28 euros for adults and 15 euros for children under 11.
