The number of people working in construction and industry in Luxembourg fell in the second quarter of 2013, but there was one sector which enjoyed unparalleled growth.
Business services or “services aux entreprises” saw paid staff numbers grow by a staggering 3.8 percent compared with the same period in 2012 and 1.6 percent from the first quarter of 2013.
This specialist sector was the main driving force for job growth overall in the Grand Duchy. Despite a -0.3 percent decline in both industry and construction jobs respectively, job numbers grew by 0.6 percent from the first to the second quarter and by 1.7 percent compared with the same period in 2012.
The figures were published by Luxembourg statistics body STATEC on Wednesday. In its report, STATEC said that while job growth figures remain low compared to previous periods, they are positive when compared to other eurozone countries where job numbers grew by a pitiful 0.1 percent on average.
