(ADW) Three people were injured, one of them seriously on Monday evening in a violent head-on crash on a notorious stretch of road of the N8 between Mersch and Brouch where many accidents have occurred.
Travelling from the direction of Reckange, a motorist suddenly lost control of their car on a wet and slippery road just after 5pm and was unable to avoid an oncoming van in the opposite lane.
The head-on collision left three injured, one of them extremely seriously triggering the call-out of a Luxembourg Air rescue helicopter.
During a two-hour rescue and clean-up operation by local firefighters, the section of the N8 where the accident occurred was completely closed to traffic.
The area of the crash is a notorious spot for accidents and recently a speed reduction from 90km per hour to 70km was introduced. Given the severity of Monday’s accident this has now been dropped further to 50km per hour.
