Emerging artists will soon get an extra boost in Luxembourg thanks to a new law which officially recognises the trade.
The bill, which has been approved by the Government Council and Chamber of Deputies, lays out social measures to support professional independent artists and people working in the entertainment industry with the overall aim to promote artistic creation.
Luxembourg Culture Minister Octavie Modert said at a press conference on Thursday that she wanted the trade to be more widely respected. “Being an artist is a real job. It should be better recognised and valued. Young people who engage in this way must be supported when they start out, which is usually a difficult time,” she said.
The bill looks at the reality of Luxembourg artists, who often work for little pay, and aims to support commercial artistic endeavours. It defines creative industries as a sector for development which will allow for the Luxembourg economy to further diversify. The bill also places an emphasis on mobility within the industry.
