(CS/gs) Luxembourg police are teaming up with their colleagues from the Saarland and Rhineland Palatinate to conduct joint speed controls on Wednesday and Thursday.
It is the second operation of this kind to help prevent accidents caused by speeding. Until 6am on Thursday morning, there will be speed controls across the border region.
In a joint statement, the police forces said that speeding is not a trivial offence and remains one of the main causes of traffic accidents. In every accident, high speed aggravates the situation, police added.
With autumn starting, police are also urging drivers to adjust their speed to the weather conditions, which can cause wet and slippery roads, as well as poor visibility.
In 2012 some 56 people died in road accidents in the Greater Region of Luxembourg, Trier and the Saarland. Over 1,300 people were injured.
