23:40 - The Wort EN team is signing off for tonight. We'll be back bright and early tomorrow morning with the latest results from Luxembourg City and Pétange!
23:01 - A problem occurred with the counting of the ballots in the commune of Pétange, so that the counting must be repeated. The final results are therefore expected later in the evening.
22:28 - In Differdange, the Green Party gets seven seats, the CSV and the LSAP get four each, followed by the DP with two seats and the KPL and Déi Lénk with one seat each.
22:24 - In Sanem, the LSAP comes in first with seven seats and the CSV second with four. The Green Party and the Left both got two seats and the DP got one.
22:15 - Reactions are coming in from the adr too. So far, the party is overall satisfied with the results, although the party will probably lose its seat in Pétange after the quarrel with Joe Thein, who founded his own party "Déi Konservativ."
However, party president Jean Schoos was confident in the evening that the party could defend its other seats. In Bettembourg the adr even managed to get into the town council with Fernand Ahles.
“But also in Clervaux or in Käerjeng, our lists were able to achieve a very decent result, even if it was not enough for a seat," concluded Schoos, who was immediately elected to the municipal council in the commune of Berdorf. The adr MP Fernand Kartheiser though, could not make it into the Käerjeng town council.
22:03 - In Esch-sur-Alzette, the LSAP and the CSV get six seats each, the Green Party gets three seats, and the DP and Déi Lénk get two seats each.
With that result, the CSV has now replaced the LSAP as the strongest party int he southern city.
"The electorate was clear, a change was demanded," says Georges Mischo, the CSV's top candidate, shortly before the end of the count. Coalition talks are to be held in the next days, but not necessarily with the LSAP. "There are other winners, too," says Mischo.
21:50 - Reactions are coming in from the LSAP party centre, as reported by our colleagues from the Wort DE. The top candidates of the LSAP for Luxembourg City, Cathy Fayot and Marc Angel, as well as Vice Prime Minister Etienne Schneider, speak on the evening of the election of a dramatic result for the LSAP.

Fayot said that the party was in a crisis, that its direction should be questioned, as the voters cannot identify with the party anymore. Both are of the opinion that the CSV succeeded in designing local elections as national elections.
For Schneider, it now goes seamlessly into the national election campaign, he said: "I will not allow the CSV to confuse voters with populist tones anymore, without counter-proposals."
21:27 - In Schuttrange, the top parties are the DP and Schëtter with four seats each. The LSAP, the Green Party and the CSV receive one seat each.
21:21 - In Diekirch, the LSAP dominates with seven seats, the CSV gets four, and the DP and the Green Party get one each.

21:06 - In Wincrange, the LSAP and the CSV receive four seats each, the DP two and the adr one.
21:02 - In Hesperange, the CSV dominates with eight seats. The Green Party and the DP get three seats each and the LSAP gets one.

20:04 - In a referendum, which was conducted at the same time as the voting for the elections, 63 per cent of voters from Kopstal and Bridel voted for their municipality to switch to the "Centre" district and thus to the canton of Luxembourg. Three per cent gave a white ballot and one per cent an invalid one.

16:16 - For those who need a reminder on the differences between a "majority-commune" and a "proportional-commune": The municipal elections are based on two different systems: the majority system and the proportional system. The type of system depends on the size of the commune. Municipalities of less than 3,000 inhabitants are have a "majority" system, there the candidates stand individually and parties only play only a secondary role. The system is different in the proportional communes, where candidates join together on lists. These are mainly parties, but sometimes also free groups.
For more information on how the elections work, including how seats are allocated after the vote, check out our guide to the communal elections.

We think it's a great trend, so as we wait for the first results to come in, here's a picture of Dolly the dog at a polling station in Luxembourg this morning:
