(MSS) Get ready to run the “happiest five kilometres on the planet” around Lake Echternach when the Color Run comes to Luxembourg in September.
Aiming to celebrate healthiness, happiness and individuality, this paint race is for first-time runners and professional athletes alike. At every kilometre the participants will get doused from head to toe in different colours made from corn flour and food colouring, a mixture that is both edible and environmentally friendly.
Although it's called the Color Run, it's up to individuals whether they want to run, walk or crawl the five kilometres – actually a staggering 60 percent of the participants at previous runs were first-time runners.
This event is really not about who's the fastest or who's crossed the line last, but about creating lasting memories and celebrating a healthy lifestyle.
Founder Travis Snyder was inspired to create the Color Run by Holi, an old Hindu colour festival, and the first race took place in Arizona in January 2012. Since then, the Color Run has attracted more than 600,000 participants spread over 50 events in the US.
The cost of signing up to join the run depends on whether you take part as a solo runner (35 euros) or enter as a team of four (32.50 euros). Be warned, the entry fee is pegged to the number of tickets sold and so rises each time 25 percent of places are filled.
In May, tickets to the Color Run in Amsterdam was sold out in under 10 minutes – will Luxembourg beat that?
