Curious and competitive types won't want to miss Luxembourg's biggest treasure hunt – Discover Luxembourg -when it gets underway in the capital on September 14.
Now in its sixth year, the 2013 edition promises a new route and seven new challenges offered in English, French and German, to test the skills and fitness of participants.
“Some of the challenges can be very physical, last year we had running, they can be games or quizzes,” explained Discover Luxembourg founder Geoff Thompson, adding: “We try to get a balance to suit every team member.”
Anyone can enter a team provided they have no more than four members. Two routes are provided: a five-kilometre one for families and people with limited mobility, which does not include stairs. The longer, nine-kilometre route taking around four hours to complete, is aimed at corporate teams and adults.
Each team receives a map guiding them to each station where they must complete a challenge and are awarded points. Before leaving they must select a station at which to play their joker card, which will double the points they are awarded. An emergency phone number is also provided for teams who get lost on the way.
Teams begin at the Luxembourg City Tourist Office at an appointed start time with the first teams leaving at 12.30pm and the last at 2.30pm.
Although this year's clues will cover four themes, including history, culture, technology and gastronomy, no special physical training or knowledge about Luxembourg City is needed.

Geoff explained: “We try to get the people that participate to discover something new about the City of Luxembourg or even the country of Luxembourg.”
Entry costs 60 euros per team and teams can be registered right up until the day itself.
Winning teams will be awarded at a prize-giving ceremony at 7pm, which is followed by a party at 8pm. To register your team or find out more, visit www.discover-lux.lu
Discover Luxembourg is organised by Chronicle.lu in partnership with the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, the Ville de Luxembourg, BGL BNP Paribas and Integreat.
