Caritas Luxembourg is appealing for emergency donations to help the millions of Syrians displaced by conflict.
The not-for-profit hopes to up the ante on its refugee emergency aid, supporting community kitchens which provide thousands of hot meals to refugees and distributing food, clothing and medical assistance.
Currently 4.25 million Syrians are thought to have been displaced and 1.9 million have fled to neighbouring countries. The UN said on Friday that one million children have become refugees because of the crisis.
“With the daily influx of some 8,000 refugees, the situation in neighboring countries also worsens constantly. People staying in abandoned buildings are particularly vulnerable and live in very poor sanitary conditions. It is necessary to address the specific needs of children, the elderly and people with disabilities,” Caritas Luxembourg said in a press release.
In order to keep up with the growing demand of victims in the coming weeks and months, the charity is appealing for emergency donations.
Donations can be made by transferring funds marked “Syria” to CCPL LU34 1111 0000 2020 0000. Alternatively, donors may make a credit card donation online by visiting www.caritas.lu.
