It was harmless enough. No sneaking into closets or drawers. No finding out from friends. What our son did last year was perfectly normal. He became aware of things he’s bound to become aware of at some point, but things we don’t necessarily want our kids to become aware of too soon.
It’s not what you might think. He was only nine; there’s still time for that other stuff. Rather, he found out that elves don’t exist. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of life, but it put a crack in his childhood. As a result, some of his innocence is lost.
