(ADW) Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the traditional Greiveldange celebrations on August 15 known as “Léiffrawëschdag”. It is an event celebrating life of yesteryear with food, peasant customs, forgotten places and trades that have long disappeared.
Once celebrated by inhabitants of the village at the end of crop harvest, Leiffrawëschdag is now a local festival that takes place yearly on Assumption day.
On Thursday, many people participated in the festivities, preceded by mass where "Wesch," a bouquet of herbs, medicinal plants, cereals and vegetables were blessed.
In the past, at the same time of year, farmers would tie “Wesch” bouquet together. It was then blessed before being hung in the barn as it was thought to bring good luck. The association “Greiveldenger Leit” has revived this quaint village tradition making sure it is not forgotten.
