(ADW) There's a little music festival named Rock de Schleek, or “snail rock” that takes place on August 16, and it hasn't earned its title because the event takes place on a snail farm, you can’t eat snails there, and it is not all about slow music!
So just why is the event called Rock de Schleek? The festival organisers explained that it is because the event takes place in Machtum, part of the area where wine producers used to be accused of being the slowest producers in the region, hence they were given the name “Schleek”. Now production has caught up with other regions but the name has stuck.
Although Rock de Schleek takes place on the Friday, it is actually an integral part of a local wine festival that runs from August 14 to 18 in Machtum and just over the river in the town of Nittel in Germany. During the wine fest you can catch a ferry between the two towns.
Rock de Schleek as a music festival is now in its fifth year. Starting off quite small in 2009, it has become a popular music event, and one of the last open-air music festivals of the season.
It all begins in Machtum at 6.30pm when the doors open and the first bands hits the stage at 7pm.
The line-up of local bands from Luxembourg and just over the border in Germany are:
Versus You
The Gambling Badgers
Dirty Crows
The Vintage Gigolos
Paragon Lost
Encypher
Ciresius
Mindless Anger
Tickets cost €5 presale, or €8 on the day at the entrance.
