Graffiti artists spray "Goodbye Monopol"
The old Monopol supermarket in Gasperich is soon to be demolished. But before new apartments pop up, the building will be turned into a vibrant concrete canvas by graffiti artists from all over the world.
(MSS) Behind the busy route d'Esch in Gasperich is a big empty warehouse. Perhaps you remember Monopol. An old, and to some almost historic, Luxembourgish chain of department stores, where ladies bought their suits and stockings and schoolchildren spent their pocket money on sweets.
Monopol went bankrupt some years ago and the Gasperich store now seems to be nothing but a big, empty space. The windows are dirty and hard to look through. Inside, water occasionally drips from the ceiling and outside weeds are growing wildly around the edges of the building.
