(ADW) Tony Appleton is indeed a truly professional Town Crier, something he's taken pride in for 25 years, however he was never asked to perform in front of St Mary's Hospital for the birth of the royal prince and was certainly not employed by Buckingham Palace.
'I got out of my cab and I stood in front of the steps, because I didn't think I would be allowed on them, and did my bit. It was great' stated Tony when interviewed by Yahoo! News.
Wearing the full historic crier costume, Tony Appleton certainly had many people believing he was officially part of the programme and was there to bring an air of tradition to the proceedings, which he did admirably, but not officially.
Hailing form Chelmsford, in south east England, Tony was amazed by just how the world had relished in his announcement. "I can't believe it, I've opened up the newspapers and my face is all over them," he stated.
Tony Appleton's complete announcement as Town Crier:
"On this day, the 22nd of July, the year 2013, we welcome with honourable duty a future king. The first born of the Royal Highness, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The third in line to the throne. Our new prince is the third great-grandchild of Her Majesty the Queen and the first grandchild of the royal highness the Prince of Wales. May he be long lived, happy and glorious and one day to reign over us. God save the Queen."
He then rang his bell before stating, "We've had a prince here today."
