(CS) The Computer Incident Response Center in Luxembourg (CIRCL) has published an online map, tracking network attacks on IP addresses in the Grand Duchy in real time.
The majority of the attacks originate from malicious network scanning or malicious software, such as worms. The targets are most frequently honeypot or black hole networks.
Honeypots can be considered as traps, as they appear to be part of a network containing valuable information, but are actually isolated and monitored to detect unauthorised activity. Black holes meanwhile see traffic dropped without the source knowing that the data did not reach the recipient.
The information from the honeypot and black hole feeds is collected and analysed by CIRCL with the help of partners hosting sensors to detect the attacks in the Grand Duchy.
Partners signed up for the service receive more detailed information about the source of the attacks, such as the IP address and the targeted protocols and services, allowing partners to adjust their security accordingly.
