(CS/raz) The renovation of the Pont Adolphe is moving into the next stage with the construction of a temporary bridge to divert traffic starting next year.
On December 17 preparations will begin for the installation of the second bridge, located right next to the Pont Adolphe. In February construction work should begin with the foundations of the bridge. From January onwards, a visitor centre located at the Boulevard Roosevelt will keep citizens up to date about the ongoing works.
The Pont Adolphe dates to 1903 and in need of large-scale maintenance and repair work. In order to facilitate traffic between the City centre and the Gare the temporary bridge will offer two lanes for traffic in direction of the central train station and one lane for buses and taxis to the City centre. There will also be a pavement on one side of the bridge.
The preparatory works include the removal of trees along the Avenue Marie-Thérèse and in the Pétrusse valley where the bridge pillars will rise next year. However, the trees will not be felled but removed with their roots and brought to a tree nursery in Kirchberg.
