Rock a Room for free open-air music festival
Just when you thought the open-air music festival season was coming to an end, another one pops its head over the horizon and a free one at that too!

(ADW) Just when you thought the open-air music festival season was coming to an end, another one pops its head over the musical horizon and a free one at that too!
Rock a Room is now in its second year and began life in a "room" in Sandweiler with a modest line-up of three local bands. This year, on September 8, the line-up has more than tripled to ten band acts and two DJ sets.
The Sandweiler venue, no longer able to cope with the size of the festival, has meant that the event has moved outside to the town's main car park area located next to the football pitch and tennis courts. Plus, it has expanded to two stages as well!
This has of course rendered the name “Rock a Room” somewhat irrelevant and the organisers, Frank Welsch and Luka Rasmusen, have vied to change it for next year, although the event is aptly subtitled "Backyard sessions".
Frank Welsch a musician himself, in an interview with wort.lu explained, "Rock a Room dates back one year, when I started our band Lawyers Guns 'n' Money. As you know its very difficult to find a venue where you can play as a newcomer, and if you are lucky and find such a place, you probably play in front of a tiny tiny crowd. To avoid that, Luka and I decided to organise Rock a Room in Sandweiler, which worked very well. We had three "unknown" bands playing and still 150 people in the room!"
Rock a Room no matter where it is on Saturday September 8, promises performances from great local bands, a terrace lounge with two DJ acts, and the usual fare of food and drink you come to expect from a music festival.
Although officially the event opens at 5pm and the first act performs at 6pm, Frank stated, "we've got two more bands so that we can start the programme already 4:30pm, as well as DJ sets that will play from midnight till 3am."
- Complete line-up as follows:
Stage 1:
18:00 – 18:30: Old Brown Bears
19:00 – 19:30: Schëppe 7

21:00 – 21:30: Another Vantage Point
22:15 – 23:00: Thoughts of the 4
Stage 2:
18:30 – 19:00: Five Cent Cones
19:30 – 20:00: Majestic Unicorns From Hell
20:30 – 21:00: Weekend Trips

DJ sets:
00:00 – 03.00: Mauricio Morkun
00.00 – 03.00: Dj Soo (at the Terrace Lounge)
"The special character of Rock a Room is on one hand it provides a musical platform for local bands of all styles from hard rock to indie-pop and acoustic bands," explained Frank Welsch, "on the other hand we've got free entrance, low prices on food and drink and a cool festival area!"
