The campaign "Summer in the City" will open on 21 June with a double event. The concert "Knuedler goes classic showtime" with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra (OPL) on the Place Guillaume II, and Fete de la Musique with a programme focusing on emerging groups and musicians from Luxembourg.
To get more people to enjoy the sounds of classical music, the OPL will, under the baton of Gast Waltzing, will interpret Medley works ranging from Pink Floyd to Led Zeppelin, but also the repertoires of Luxembourg groups, namely Eternal Tango, Serge Tonnar and de Lab. In all, over 50 musicians will be on stage and the concert will be broadcast on big screens. The rendezvous is at 9pm on 21 June, Place Guillaume II and absolutely free!
The day after is of course national holiday from the evening, and in addition to the torchlight processions and firework displays, a multitude of concerts and DJ sets will fill every nook and cranny of the capital. Latin music lovers can watch performances from salsa schools across the Greater Region in the Pétrusse valley. Once again this is also free!
The headline act for the MeYouZik festival of world music, that takes place on 2 July on Place Guillaume, Place Clairefontaine and Rue du Saint-Esprit, is Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, son of the late Fela Kuti. The City will be alive with afrobeat in the traditional style of Kuti, not to mention a host of other world acts and why not sample the culinary delights offered during the event?
The day after is the well-known Rock um Knuedler heavily loaded with local music talent before the arrival on stage of Sharleen Spiteri, lead singer of the Glaswegian band Texas. She visits Luxembourg as part of her comeback tour of “greatest hits".
Lovers of blues and jazz music have their own festival in the form of the ever popular Blues’n Jazz Rallye which takes place on 16 July along the streets of the Grund and Clausen.

Streeta(rt)nimation is the next on the list when the streets of the City come alive with street art, theatre and music. This year it takes place over 2 days on 13 and 14 August.
And finally, in support of the charity “SOS Villages d'enfants du monde” the Luxembourg City Tourist Office plan a free concert by Khaled, to close Summer In The City in style as the summer sun leaves us once again.
