(ADW) On the fields in Roeser, 18,000-plus festival goers were served up 15 musical courses of rock, pop, electro, rap, and best of all.... it was a glorious sunny day!
Project 54 from Trier, Versus You from Luxembourg and UK rockers You Me At Six where the first acts invited to open the sixth Rock-A-Field for Luxembourg.
At midday the site quickly filled up with fans. The final figure is not known yet but is expected to be around 18-19,000 spectators for the entire day.
Gaslight Anthem followed with their rock style and “All Time Low” lived up to their name, hitting an all time low when their tour bus broke down on the way to the festival. Rock-A-Field organisers had to fly the band in, meaning they played a special acoustic set in Roeser.
Luxembourg’s much loved rap act De Läb were the only local band to play the main stage this year, getting the crowd jumping in their catchy and at times cheeky style.
Then on with the rock as the Danish band Volbeat in their rock-metal style boomed out on the main stage across the fields, before the crowds rushed over to the Startin’ stage to head-bang to Bullet For My Valentine; the same band who supported Ozzy Osbourne at the Rockhal earlier this month.
"Fanta 4! Fanta 4”. If you know just one German band, chances are it is the “Fantastischen Vier”. After 20 years of catchy rap tunes, these guys still know how to draw and excite a crowd, and certainly Luxembourg fans responded, many of the not even born when the band first formed.
Wombats were next up, a band becoming quite popular in Luxembourg, especially after the success of their recent single “Jump Into The Fog”.

The Canadians, Arcade Fire, were what many people had come to see and this was reinforced by the results of the poll carried out the Wort.lu/en Rock-A-Field live feed on the day, placing them in the top spot for preferred RAF 2011 bands. The crowds loved them. It is interesting to note that Arcade Fire are quite picky about their food and will not eat the same menu as other artists, demanding their own special diet. At Rock-A-Field they were especially catered for with their very own food tent.
Only three bands left and Elbow performed a set that can only be described as “beautiful”. A calming poetic performance in contrast with many acts that preceded them. Complete with enormous blow-up figures that rose as shadows against the setting sun on either side of the stage, their beautiful act reduced some members of the crowd to tears of joy.
But then came the almighty Arctic Monkeys with their thumping tunes that the crowd seem to know all the lyrics to by heart. Fans would not let them leave at the end of their set either, and the Brits came back on stage to play a long encore.
The night was then closed by DJ electro band from Belgium Goose, on the Startin’ stage.
