(JB) Luxembourg's capital faces gridlock next Wednesday morning when a bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic.
From 9am to 1pm the Pont Adolphe, linking the gare district to the city centre, will be reduced to one lane of traffic and one pedestrian footpath.
The Ville de Luxembourg (VDL) said that the closure is necessary for maintenance to be carried out on the bridge.
Given that the city already experiences a high degree of congestion in the mornings, the part closure is expected to slow down traffic flow, causing delays for motorists and those using the bus network.
The repairs form part of a 23 million euro project to restore and renovate the majestic city-centre bridge.
As well as strengthening the structure, renovations are aimed at widening the crossing by 75 centimetres on either side to allow for the construction of two tramlines.
A temporary bridge is expected to be constructed this autumn to ease traffic congestion while work is carried out on the Pont Adolphe.
