(JB) Luxembourg's rapidly expanding bike hire scheme is becoming increasingly popular, with take-up almost doubling from May to June.
According to JCDecaux, which maintains several hundred Vel'oh! pay-as-you-go bikes around Luxembourg, the number of people using the service grew from a weekly average of 460 in May to 740 the following month.
JCDecaux also announced the installation of eight new stations in districts on the outskirts of the city.
Four stations were installed in Hesperange in the south and a further four in Strassen, together providing an additional 80 bikes.
Users pay as little as 15 euros per year to use the Vel'oh! Scheme (providing unlimited use for half an hour at a time).
Currently 4,400 people have subscribed to the scheme and 450,000 bikes have been hired since its inception in the Grand Duchy in March 2008.
