(JB) Motorists are warned to steer clear of the motorways this weekend when thousands of holidaymakers set off on their holidays.
As schools break-up for the summer this week, scores of Europeans will pile into their cars and hit the open road heading for warmer climes starting this Friday.
But, they may take some time getting there. According to the Automobile Club (ACL) of Luxembourg, tailbacks stretching over several kilometres regularly occur at this time of year because of the high volumes of traffic.
To avoid misery for both holidaymakers and general road users, ACL has released a black list of the areas expected to be worst affected.
Germany
German motorways to avoid include the A1, A2, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9 and A93. Also affected will be the Munich and Hambourg bypasses.
France
Parisian roads are expected to be among the worst affected, including the A1, A3, A86, A6 and A10. The A6 faces particular problems around Lyon and Villefranche-sur-Saône. In the greater Orléans region, motorists should steer clear of the A7, A8, A9, A61, N9 and A10 meanwhile the A63 and N163 on the Rennes bypass should be avoided where possible.
Belgium
Most traffic is expected to be flowing towards the north sea coast as holidaymakers escape for a seaside break. Traffic may be slow-moving because of road works on the Brussels ring road. For motorists heading for Ostende it is suggested they follow the coastal deviation via Namur through Charleroi, Courtrai and Bruges.
