(JB) Police are appealing for information about a suspected car thief who evaded officers by swimming across a river.
The man first came to the attention of police when, during a routine patrol in Schieren, officers discovered a car that had been reported stolen.
At the same time they saw a man fleeing the scene. Police gave chase, pursuing the fugitive across a field but lost him when he swam across the Alzette river.
The incident occurred at around midnight on Monday.
During the early hours of Tuesday morning, witnesses reported seeing a suspicious looking person in Ettelbruck, two kilometres to the north of the village where police gave chase.
A subsequent search of the stolen vehicle found two empty cans and tools. Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 113.
