(JB) Luxembourg's Grand Duke has sent his deepest condolences to the King of Norway following tragic attacks in the country.
Grand Duke Henri sent a heartfelt message to Norwegian King Harald V in which he outlined his shock at Friday's two horrific attacks on the Prime Minister's office and at a youth summer camp.
In an open letter, he wrote: “Deeply shocked by the tragedy that has cast a pall over your country, the Grand Duchess and myself would like, on behalf of the Luxembourg nation, to express our great compassion.
"I would kindly ask you to convey our deep sadness to the countless families who lost loved ones and are now immersed in pain.”
The message joins scores of similar notes sent from heads of states of neighbouring European countries following the shooting spree at a summer camp, in which 85 died, and an explosion in downtown Oslo, which killed seven.
Norwegian police have arrested Anders Behring Breivik as their number one suspect for the bombing in downtown Oslo and a shooting spree at a youth retreat hours later.
The 32-year-old blond, blue-eyed Norwegian has apparently expressed right-wing and anti-Muslim views over the Internet.
On Sunday, a statement from the suspect's lawyer, Geir Lippestad, claimed that his client acted alone.
Despite this, some witnesses reported seeing a second assailant in the shooting attack.
