ADW) Within 24 hours after the bomb threats in the capital, police succeeded on Thursday afternoon in arresting a suspect.
The man had phoned the emergency number, twice within a short period of time from two different locations.
In what police describe as very confusing wording, he announced that a bomb would explode in the upper town area near Place Guillaume and 30 minutes later another near the railway station in the Gare area. The caller said that he was speaking on behalf of Al Qaeda. The man spoke Luxembourgish, but police stated he was obviously trying to imitate a foreign accent.
For triggering false alarms, the accused now risks in court, a sentence of up to five years in prison and a hefty fine.
False arrest reports
Reports in other medias, stating that a “suspect” had been arrested on Wednesday afternoon in relation to the bomb alerts proved completely incorrect.
Police explained that just after 4pm when the public was ordered to remain behind the barriers in the Gare area, a drunk man attempted to enter the blocked off area. When police officers instructed the man to return behind the barrier, he became abusive and pushed a policeman.
It was at this point two police officers grabbed the man to remove him from the scene and took him to the police station for questioning.
