(CH) On Sunday, Luxembourgish adventurer Raymond Behm will set off on another spectacular journey. This time, as the weekly magazine Télécran reports in the current issue, the Globetrotter from Ell has set his sights on America. But not just the US, the entire American continent.
On his trusty motorbike, his plans are to ride along the legendary Ruta Panamericana, that will take him 40,158 kilometres from Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina. On his way, Behm will travel through more than 23 different countries.
In October 2009, Raymond Behm hit international headlines as the “spy on a bike”. However, this did not work out too well for him! On his bicycle trip from Luxembourg to Cairo he was detained in Syria under suspicion of espionage after taking a picture of a missile base. For the days that followed, the 58-year old's whereabouts were unknown and no contact was made. Only after the Luxembourg Foreign Ministry had been alerted was he was released after nearly 10 days of detention.
His trips must have been as magnificent as they sound crazy; In 2005 and 2006 he explored the South and North pole, respectively. In 2007, he crossed Tibet on a Mountain-Bike and last year he drove an old golf on the famous Silk Road to Beijing.
Furthermore, he intended to climb the “Seven Summits”; the highest mountain of each continent. Unfortunately, he only managed six. At Mount Everest he had to turn back at 7300 metres.
