(CH) A woman was seriously injured in an accident between Mertert and Grevemacher at around noon today.
For unknown reasons, the female driver's Toyota Yaris veered off the road, as she travelled from Mertert.
The vehicle struck a street sign before sliding into the ditch where the car drove over an embankment, finally colliding with a large stone. The impact was so violent that the car overturned itself and was thrown back onto the roadway, lying on the roof.
The lone driver was seriously injured and trapped in her car. She had to be freed by means of a heavy hydraulic device and was admitted to the Hôpital Kirchberg. A dog, that was in the car as well, was rescued unharmed.
The car was reportedly written off. Because of the rescue and salvage work, one lane of the road between Mertert and Grevenmacher was closed to traffic during an one hour, causing a traffic jam.
On site were an ambulance, emergency rescue service and the volunteer fire brigade of the Centre d'Intervention Mertert-Wasserbillig, the volunteer fire department from Grevenmacher, the regional inspector Jos Schummer as well as the police from both Grevenmacher and Wasserbillig.
