(ADW) August 5 was the date that the company Socimmo Construction SA was officially declared bankrupt. All 477 employees that lost their jobs, were summoned on Wednesday to a meeting in Esch-sur-Alzette organised by the unions OGBL and LCGB to provide information on administrative formalities each employee needs to pursue following the bankruptcy.
Given the large number of people, two meetings were held the same day: one at 9am and the second in 2pm. "This is to inform them of their rights in the case of bankruptcy and prepare them in making claims," says Paul de Araujo of LCGB. As representatives from ADEM were on hand to help, employees could apply directly with them.
To avoid the long wait before benefit payments, ranging from three to six months given the current legislation on bankruptcy, the Labour Minister, Nicolas Schmit, and unions had agreed from 10 August to credit employee's accounts quickly given the precarious economic situation, explained Paul de Araujo.
