After several years of decline, Luxembourg City Tourist Office has published tourism figures for 2011 that look extremely promising. Since the beginning of the year the LCTO team has dealt with 403,085 tourists in total. That’s an increase of 6.38% compared to 2010. Saturday August 13 for the Streeta(rt)nimation festival, was one of the best days of the year with 2,345 tourists reported.
A team of LCTO representatives has been roaming the City streets wearing “Ask me" jackets as part of the "Summer in the City” campaign that began on June 21 and ends September 11. To date, the figures show that they dealt with 35,092 tourists by August 31. That’s an increase of 12.98% compared to 2010.

Grand Ducal Palace, a tourist magnet
Guided tours are booming with a jump of 13.36% compared to 2010. In total 4,014 tours were booked. This represents 160,560 people participating. Visits to the Grand Ducal Palace recorded a great success. 10,576 visitors have taken a peek inside the palace. This is the second best result since early tours in 1977.
The “City Walk” attracted 3,970 participants, 19.47% more than a year ago. It seems that tourist customers are forever seeking that personal touch and tailor-made programmes.
Luxembourg’s casemates remain the principle tourist attraction in the capital with a total of 87,083 visitors from March 1 to August 31. This represents an increase of 3.66%. The Bock casemates have seen an influx of 71,915 tourists, an increase of 7.96% compared to 2010. The casemates in the Pétrusse however show only 15,168 visitors. This corresponds to a drop in visits of 12.82% compared to 2010.
Open seven days a week
The LCTO once again in 2011 presented a highly varied cultural programme. In the first weekend of July, for example, the world music festival "MeYouZik" took place with 7000 visitors “Rock um Knuedler" the day after with Scottish legend Texas as headliner, boasted 15,000 people.
Open seven days a week, the City tourist office on Place Guillaume II is the central information point for tourists to the Grand Duchy’s capital. A total of 120,350 people so far in 2011, which is actually a drop of -1.53% compared to 2010, were helped with information relating to tourism and culture.
