Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude could give up his role as head of the Eurogroup to focus on leading his country.
The suggestion was made in a report published in daily newspaper the Deutschland Financial Times.
According to the article, Mr Juncker could be readying the way to step down from the role which has become evermore challenging following the economic crisis.
Germany has reportedly mooted European Council President Herman Von Rompuy to replace Mr Juncker. The German daily suggested that German politician Peer Steinruck or French Dominique Strauss-Kahn could be viable candidates.
The newspaper said that Eurozone ministers will meet in October to discuss possible successors.
