(JB) Luxembourg's buses are to undergo a make-over this autumn to make travel friendlier and more accessible.
The plan by the Ville de Luxembourg will see its fleet of 200 buses receive a new paint job to make them more attractive.
The project was announced on Monday to coincide with the start of mobility week, which will see a number of projects taking place across the country.
On Sunday, there will be a mobility open day in which families can take part in technical workshops at the service des transports et commun where they can learn more about the projects for buses, cars, bicycles and pedestrians.
On Saturday a number of bike tours will be led across the capital to make cyclists more aware on the roads.
Meanwhile, in Dudelange an electric bike recharging station will be inaugurated in front of the town hall and visitors can pick up more information about travelling short distances in the town or get their bikes security coded by police.
Bus use in Luxembourg City has grown considerably during the last 10 years with the number of trips taken rising by 35%. At the same time bike use is also growing. Some 3.5% of journeys are now made by bike. The result means fewer private cars in the capital, which remains an ongoing target for the Ville de Luxembourg.
