It's election time, for music!

It's time to vote, and we are not talking about Luxembourg's up-coming commune elections!

The Diekirch Netrock festival is blasting onto a computer screen near you starting on Monday with 30 local bands playing live all pleading for your votes. 10 bands will play each day as the event continues until Wednesday.
Young bands from Luxembourg and the Greater region with a wide variety of music styles, will line-up at the Rockhal for their allotted 15 minute slot in which they have to prove themselves worthy of your vote. The acts will play to a completely empty hall apart from a few technicians and cameras pointing at them capturing their every note. Their act will then be transmitted live to the internet where anyone has a chance of becoming a budding music critic and vote, or not vote, on the quality of the bands’ performances.
Some band members who took part in the event last year describe the experience similar to that of a music audition and extremely nerve-wracking. “It’s very strange, you are playing to nothing, an empty hall with no feedback and when you finish playing, nothing! It’s a great experience though!” said Paddy from Trier’s pop-punk band Project 54 who took part last year and, obviously enjoying the festival, are in the line-up once again for 2011.

However this year bands get to see just how the online audience is reacting to their performance live. A screen in front of them will display how the public is voting adding an extra exciting element to the festival.
And the bands are not playing just for fun either. Two awards will be presented after the three days: an audience prize and professional jury prize.
The audience prize winner will be recorded for a Netrock Best Of CD to be distributed around the Grand-Duchy and the band will embark across the country on a “Diekirch Bar Tour”, playing in bars throughout Luxembourg. The jury prize will be a recording of a four-track EP in the professional studio at the Rockhal, providing a great opportunity for bands starting out.
