Luxembourg statistics agency STATEC have just produced their 2011 "Luxembourg in figures" yearbook for the Grand Duchy with some very interesting and occasionally eyebrow raising figures.
Did you know, for example, that the country’s population has now broken the 511,800 figure? Just 20 years ago it was registered at 384,400 inhabitants. Luxembourg City now has 94,000 citizens compared to 90,800 only a year ago.
Did you also know that not a single metre of the Grand Duchy’s waterways has received the score of “very good" in relation to ecological status and pollution levels? Or even that 42% of rivers are rated either poor or even bad?
The report also states that total energy consumption in the Grand Duchy fell by nearly 7% between 2008 and 2009. This is despite the increase in population due to the economic crisis.
All this information and more is packed into the 48 page “Luxembourg in figures” report. The report can be downloaded for free from STATEC at the link below in English as a PDF file or ordered on the website itself as a physical booklet.
