(JB) A French nuclear power station on Luxembourg's border has been highlighted as one of the worst in France in a report by the Nuclear Safety Authority (NSA).
According to Greenpeace, the EDF nuclear power station in Cattenom was upbraded by NSA safety inspectors who highlighted 11 flaws and made 33 suggestions for improvement.
The site was one of eight in France to be asked to make a total 219 changes.
Greenpeace spokesman Roger Spautz said: “The official documents of the NSA have given neighbouring countries enough information for them to begin worrying about the status of France's fleet of nuclear reactors. None of the sites inspected by the NSA can be described as safe.”
Among the safety risks posed by the power station, Greenpeace cited the fact that no tests had taken into account the impact of an earthquake such as the one which hit the Fukushima power station in Japan.
NSA reportedly identified weaknesses in all areas analysed, including the power supply, flood risks, seismic risk, operational management of accidents and internal emergency plans.
In a bid to raise awareness about the risks and to encourage the Luxembourg Government to take steps to close the power plant, Greenpeace released the following video clip.
