Since Luxembourg’s Cargolux refused delivery of two Boeing 747-8F aircraft on September 17 and 19, blaming higher engine energy consumption than than expected and smaller cargo capacity than announced in its order, it has pretty much been radio silence.
Cargolux and Boeing have therefore, been in intense negotiations to try to break the deadlock situation that is not beneficial for either parties. If Boeing now feels somewhat constrained in the possibility to change the new aircraft that were due to be delivered , the American manufacturer does need to tread carefully in talks with Cargolux otherwise it runs the risk of discouraging other buyers. This is especially so since the arrival of Qatar Airways in Cargolux finances, adding weight to the Luxembourg company’s case.
In a statement released by Cargolux, the negotiations between the two companies now look to be coming out of the clouds. A company board meeting will take place on October 7 and a decision will be made as to whether or not delivery of the two Boeing 747-8F will be accepted. The outcome will then be announced publically after the meeting.
