(JB) The president of one of Luxembourg's biggest unions has temporarily stepped down in a bid to rescue beleaguered firm ProActif.
LCGB national president Robert Weber announced today (Monday) his resignation after 34 years in the post.
The union said in a statement: "Given the current situation and a concern to preserve the interests of the union for which he worked for over 34 years, Robert Weber decided today to resign from his term as national president of LCGB.
"In the weeks and months ahead, Robert Weber will be devoted primarily to the necessary restructuring of the association ProActif to preserve an essential tool in the fight against unemployment, and the employees concerned."
Mr Weber will be temporarily replaced by Secretary General Patrick Dury in collaboration with the two vice-presidents Nico Hoffmann and George Conter.
ProActif is a part state-owned firm involved in helping people to find work. It is currently being investigated for dishonestly claiming 2.4 million euros from the state.
