(JB) One in every 10 people are breaking the law when taking sick leave, the country's health body has revealed.
In an interview with Luxembourg broadcasting association RTL, Jean-Claude Garlinski of health service the CNS said that out of the 1,000 or so sick leave cases checked, 10% of patients had broken the rules.
The law states that during the first five days of incapacity, a worker is not allowed to leave their home unless to visit their doctor or buy food. After the threshold, they are only allowed to leave their home between 10am and noon and 2pm and 6pm.
Each year checks are regularly carried out whereby CNS officers visit a patient's home to ensure they are adhering to the law.
Mr Garlinkski told RTL that breaching the rules on movements by a sick patient could result in a person losing three days' of sick pay as a punishment as well as further observation.
