(JB) Readers will be able to follow Sunday's election results live on wort.lu/en thanks to a handy tool, which will update the counts in real time.
Altogether some 263,068 people are expected to go to the polls this Sunday to decide the future representatives of Luxembourg's 106 communes.
Of that number, 31,019 voters will be non-Luxembourgish nationals, who fulfil the country's voting criteria and have registered to vote.
Going to the polling station
The day begins early with polling stations opening at around 8am. Voters should take their voting slip, which they will have received by post, to the polling station, along with a form of identity (passport or identity card).
To find out more about the location of your polling station, contact your commune office.
Voting ceases at 2pm when the counting begins.
Changes to the elections
This year's communal elections will see two substantial changes. For the first time non-Luxembourgish residents can both vote and stand as candidates. At the time of publishing, no complete list of non-Luxembourgish candidates standing was available, however.
A second difference is that communes will undergo a restructure, which means that the number of communes will drop from 116 to 106 in January 2012. Voters, therefore, will vote for candidates who will take up their roles on January 1, 2012, in the remaining 106 communes.
Where to find the results
Wort.lu/en will feature a live update page, recording the results for each commune as they come in.
For those on the move, you can benefit from free WIFI access in HOTCITY zones throughout Luxembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette on Sunday.
