The idea has been floating around for some time: Luxembourg's CHL hospital would like to extend its maternity wards. The project involves the construction of a new 58-bed maternity ward, of which 70% will be separate rooms also known as “mother-child” rooms.
"The mother-child rooms really help a baby's development and strengthen the relationship between a mother and her child," said Steve Ehmann, a member of the association “Patiente Vertriedung”. "If this project proves beneficial, why not the expand nationally? " he added.
The idea of the association is to create a larger maternity department with mother and child rooms. "It would actually save money" said Steve Ehmann.
What about private maternity? "After giving birth mothers would be free to return to the maternity ward after the legally allowed hospitalisation period" explained Steve Ehmann.
