It started with a dramatic piano solo, captivating the crowd of about 2000 in true Mando Diao unplugged style, before the band exploded onto the stage to begin their romp through their mountain of hits stretching back more than ten years. Luxembourg and the concert at the Rockhal on Tuesday night was part of the Swedish band’s MTV Unplugged “Above and Beyond” tour.
And certainly the normally static Luxembourg crowd, loved the performance and threw away their inhibitions to merrily sing, dance and clap to every song.
However, one was left wondering what the band’s interpretation of “unplugged” meant to them. While virtually all of their songs had been beautifully rearranged to include cellos and violins, slower and calmer passages to normally thumping songs, the electric guitar was ever present. In fact 3 of them for most of the songs and not forgetting the electric keyboards.
Still, this didn’t seem to quell enthusiasm from fans. Indeed one of the concert ticket winners with wort.lu/en, Luis, after the gig stated “They really worked to make the crowd feel comfortable sounding great in the Rockhal. The song they played from their album not yet released in Swedish, was awesome and they played for one hour 45 minutes which is not usual”.
Luis also enthused for the support act that preceded Mando Diao, fellow Swedes Golden Kanine “they warmed up the Rockhal really well”.
Mando Diao's concert in the Rockhal, brings the MTV Unplugged tour across Europe to an end.
