(CS) After conflicting reports on the fate of former Libyan Leader Col Muammar Gaddafi, Libya's interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril confirms the ex-dictator has been killed.
Earlier on Thursday the National Transitional Council (NTC) announced that Gaddafi had been captured in his hometown of Sirte. It was unclear whether he had been wounded or killed and reports remained to be confirmed by an official source.
News channel Al Jazeera has since aired a shaky video of a man resembling Gaddafi being shown badly wounded or killed, bleeding from the head.
Col Muammar Gaddafi went missing after the fall of Tripoli in August.
Various suggestions as to his hide-out could not be confirmed over the past weeks. His hometown of Sirte, a pro-Gaddafi stronghold to the last, has seen major fighting with rebels taking over 90% of the town on Monday according to the NTC.
The town has been in rebel hands since Thursday morning, when fighters set out to search for Gaddafi loyalists.
A NATO air strike was carried out on two targets in Sirte earlier on Thursday, but it is unclear whether these strikes are connected to the reports of Gaddafi's death.
