(JB) Men posing as police officers stole cash from a motorist whilst carrying out a supposed identity check.
The three suspects drove an Audi into the A4 motorway stop in Capellen at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.
Two of the men, who wore caps, jackets with “POLICE” written on them and carried a kind of police badge, then asked to see a motorist's identity papers. The victim handed over a document, at which point one of the thieves grabbed his wallet.
The pair returned to the Audi, where a third man was waiting, and reportedly drove off in the direction of Belgium.
Both suspects spoke French, were described as aged around 30 and of about 1.8 metres tall. The victim told police he thought they may have been of Romanian origin.
Police remind the public that all police officers speak Luxembourgish. If a resident suspects they have been approached by a bogus Luxembourg police officer, they are encouraged to call 113.
