(ADW) The unemployment rate reached 5.9% in September, according to preliminary figures presented on Wednesday morning by the “comité de conjoncture” or economic committee. That breaks down to a figure of 14,634 unemployed or 493 more than in August and 495 more than a year ago.
The statistics regarding the number of unemployed in September is still provisional stated a Statec spokesman. "The number of job seekers may be scaled back once the final data has been established," he said. However, for Statec the figure of 14,141 unemployed in August is final.
If those that take part in employment projects and schemes are also taken into consideration, the total number of people provisionally registered in September 2011 stands at 18,821, stated the Statec report.
Job vacancies increased by 11.4%
As for available jobs, progress slowed after the boom earlier this year when job numbers were twice what they were during the same period last year. The number of vacancies registered with ADEM still reached 2580, or 11.4% more than in September 2010.
26 companies have had their applications for partial redundancy accepted meaning that an estimated 2,112 employees will work reduced hours.
