(ADW) After energy labels for appliances, buildings new cars, a new label for tyres come into force in about a year’s time.
As of autumn 2012, a standardised labelling of tyres will be implemented throughout the European Union.
The objective of the initiative is to inform consumers of three performance indicators: the resistance, wet grip and the external noise level for sets of tyres on the market.
The part of the label corresponding to the wet grip and resistance will look similar to those labels displayed on home appliances in regards to energy performance. The letter “A” will indicate the best performing tyre and the letter “G” the least efficient.
The exterior noise level of a tyre will be expressed in decibels and will be displayed as one, two or three sound waves. One wave for the quietest, three for the noisiest tyre.
All tyres sold throughout the European Union will carry the same label, with the aim facilitating the comparison of performance criteria.
