(jw/ADW) The new Alzette Bridge in Hesperange originally should have opened on Monday, but this was delayed due to “technical problems”. These were resolved on Tuesday at about 1:30pm when it was opened and traffic began flowing in and out of the town.
"On Monday we had to deal with stability problems. At one point, the concrete was still not completely set, "said Jean Stein from Hesperange commune. On Tuesday at short notice, road markings had to be modified and safety reflectors were also installed for better night vision. This all let to the opening delay. This was nothing to do with traffic lights as some other medias reported.
But from 1:30pm all issues were solved and the new bridge opened to traffic. Motorists now have to adapt to changes in traffic flow. The main axis on the busy route no longer sends all traffic down the route de Thionville. Motorists now have a choice of the traditional route, or cross the new bridge to rue de Bettembourg and on to Gasperich.
