(CS) The University of Luxembourg has around 5,700 matriculated students for the 2011/2012 winter term. This is an 8% increase from the previous year.
All three faculties report a rise in students, who are mainly from Luxembourg (48%) and 100 other nationalities.
Most students are enrolled in Bachelor programmes with a 12% increase in matriculated Luxembourg citizens, while student numbers from the Greater Region decreased. The new student loan regulations might be a contributing factor to this trend.
On the other hand more students from families with a Portuguese background enrolled, now making up 7.6% of BA students.
While most students are enrolled in Bachelor programmes the university has also seen an increasing number of students in postgraduate education. Around 1,000 students are studying in one of the 25 Master programmes and 380 are pursuing a PhD or other doctoral qualification, compared to 320 last year.
Also on campus are around 120 guest auditors, mainly visiting lectures in philosophy and sociology.
The figures mark the provisional register of inscribed students and some changes may still take place .
