(JB) Five flights were cancelled and two planes were diverted from landing at Findel airport on Monday because of thick fog.
The dense fog rendered visibility to near zero at Findel airport, making the runway unsafe for take-offs and landings during what is normally a busy period for air traffic.
The situation was made worse for passengers when a technical problem grounded another flight, which was destined for Luxembourg, in Vienna.
Storms in the Mediterranean also caused delays for flights to Barcelona, Porto and Larnaca.
Findel was not the only airport to be affected by the fog. Similar weather conditions in London, UK, caused one connecting flight to be cancelled and left passengers for other flights waiting up to four hours.
Altogether some 400 customers are thought to have been affected by the cancellations.
Passengers planning to travel in the coming days or collecting someone from the airport are warned to check the status of their flight online before leaving for the airport.
The fog, which has covered much of Luxembourg for the past few days, is expected to clear by Wednesday this week.
