(ADW) A police chase, car crash and fleeing suspects on foot, were all part of an incident that occurred at about 8:30pm on Wednesday night in Dahlem, near Aire de Capellen.
It was during a police control of a truck parked on the hard shoulder of the A6 motorway near Aire de Capellen, a grey Audi A5 raced by the officers at excessive speed, who quickly gave chase.
With their lights flashing and sirens blazing, the police pursued the car that once spotting the police car, accelerated even more. The car exited the motorway at Garnich, crossing the town at extreme excessive speeds.
With thick fog and high speeds, the police preferred not to take extreme risks and slowed down.
Just before entering the town of Dahlem, the fugitives crashed into an oncoming motorist. The victim was rushed to hospital but did not suffer serious injuries. The police at this stage, were about 300 metres behind the racing Audi.
The two occupants of the car, one aged 24, the other 27, then fled on foot leaving the Audi wreckage behind them.
During a search of the vehicle, a small quantity of drugs was discovered by a police sniffer dog. Further investigation should determine just as to why the two men took such risks to evade police.
