(ADW) The Swede Anders Borg is the best finance minister in Europe according to an annual Financial Times report, published Wednesday and based on interviews with seven economists in three different areas.
Up four places in the list to fifth is Jean-Claude Juncker despite him not even being a Finance Minister. Luxembourg's real Finance Minster Luc Frieden, doesn't even get a look-in on FT's listings.
However, "under the leadership of Jean-Claude Juncker," argues Sony Kapoor, director of Re-Define, "the finance ministers of Eurogroup have failed in their job."
German Wolfgang Schauble was dethroned from the top spot in 2010 by Anders Borg - "a model of virtue" said Michael Heise of Allianz - but still before the Pol Jacek Rostowski and Christine Lagarde of the International Monetary Fund. It is the Belgian Didier Reynders who is left at the foot of the podium just before Eurogroup President.
